A Project of Aurat Foundation & Asia Foundation (TAF) under USAID Gender Equity Program (GEP) Enhancing Woman Workers Awareness on their Rights and Labour Laws in District Rahim Yar Khan

Aurat Foundation in collaboration with The Asia Foundation awarded a sub-grant to PRWSWO by the generous financial support of USAID under t h e Gender Equity Program (GEP).

The key objective of this grant is to enhance awareness amongst women workers around their rights and increase knowledge related to labor laws. PRWSWO would focus on the district of Rahimyarkhan which are existing industrial and/or other economic activity hubs (formal and informal) in the five provinces and aim to strengthen their ability as an informed agency of change.

PRWSWO seek to empower women workers by enhancing knowledge of their labor rights, and organize them into groups. This would include women workers from both formal as well as informal sectors. As part of the women workers will also be enabled to engage with employers where applicable/possible. Through this initiative women factory/industrial workers, home based workers and daily wage women workers will be brought together on one platform ; an innovative mechanism for their engagement.

PRWSWO organized number of activities that included Context Analysis of Women Groups, Trainings/workshops of women workers on Labor Laws and Anti Sexual Harassment Law., Training on women leadership, Rollout Activities by Women Trainees, Meetings for Formation of District Level Network of Women Workers and linkage formation with trade unions, Workshop/Seminar for Employers, Radio Campaign, Session with District Labor Department, Exposure visits to Provincial Labour Department, Orientation meetings with Labour Department, Trade Unions, Employers, NGOs on project objectives, Meetings with Members of Chambers of Commerce & Industries, Women Workers Conventions etc.
